This course focuses on classical ballet, a form of dance that combines exercises that focus on muscular strength, agility, concentration. The general benefits of ballet for kids of all ages include, but are not limited to, improved posture, flexibility, balance, motor skills, rhythm, and cardiovascular health, use of muscles of the entire body (legs, arms and strong focus on core).
Ballet is also a foundation for other types of dance such as hip hop, jazz, ballroom or modern dance. In sum, the focus of this class is to introduce the kids to the joy of dance, music, rhythm based movement, and creativity in a supportive and nurturing environment.
- Intro to FUNdamental dance exercise (plie, tendues, etc.) in the form of games
- Intro to ballet vocabulary (names of a few basic steps, feet and arm positions)
- Intro to stretches geared towards ballet
- Performing small dance routines
